Varbergs Kusthotell, Sweden
A warm welcome to the NordTick 2026 conference that will be held at the lovely seaside Varbergs Kusthotell, Varberg, on the southwestern coast of Sweden, to actively participate and contribute to the scientific program. Take the opportunity to meet, discuss and network with research colleagues in a friendly and informal atmosphere. NordTick 2026 is organized by an internationally leading group on the tick-borne bacterium Neoerlichia mikurensis, led by Professor Christine Wennerås, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and the administrative coordinator Stefan Wengelin, Commee AB, under the umbrella of NoSTick, the Nordic Society for Research on Ticks and Tick-borne Infections.
The conference starts with lunch on Tuesday 2 June, and ends two with lunch on Thursday 4 June, 2026. The NordTick conferences are held every two years in one of the Nordic countries and typically attract 150-200 participants. The focus is on different aspects of ticks and tick-borne diseases, covering current research on ticks, the general and clinical aspects of tick-borne diseases in humans and animals, tick-borne microbial communities and species. New and ongoing research will be presented by participants at oral and poster sessions, and by invited key-note speakers. The conference language is English.

Dr. Olivier Duron (senior researcher), National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Montpellier, France
An expert on bacterial communities carried by ticks and other arthropods. Employs experimental, metagenomics and phylogenetic analyses to investigate evolutionary ecology, genome evolution, species interactions and endosymbiosis. Will give a talk on Spiroplasma ixodetis, an emerging bacterial pathogen of humans that can cause severe eye infections in newborns and systemic disease in adults. S. ixodetis is also a facultative endosymbiont known to influence the reproductive biology of various arthropods, although its effects in ticks remain unknown.
Prof. Anne-Mette Lebech (chief physician), University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark.
An expert on the clinical and epidemiologic aspects of tick-borne diseases with a focus on the pathogens that affect the nervous system such as Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and TBE. Employs nationwide population-based registry studies, cohort studies, and case-control studies in her research. Will give a talk on the latest discoveries within the field of Lyme borreliosis.
Prof. Marianne van Hage (senior consultant), Karolinska Institute and Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.
One of the leading scientists in the field of the alpha-Gal syndrome (AGS), a severe food allergy induced by tick bites. She has demonstrated the presence of alpha-Gal-carrying proteins in tick saliva, elucidated the cellular mechanisms of the disease, and contributed to unraveling its diverse clinical manifestations. Will give a talk on this subject.
We welcome the submission of abstracts covering on-going research on ticks, tick-borne microorganisms (including bacteria, virus, parasites), and tick-borne diseases (tbd). Topics of interest are e.g.
Abstract submissions will be selected by peer review for either short talks or presentations at the interactive poster sessions
(e.g. poster pitch).
Abstract submisson will open in December 2025
